Secrets of the Beehive - Creating a New, Vintage Shaving Brush

Secrets of the Beehive

I bought this brass and rosewood leather stamp from a local antique store before Christmas. Dating from the late 19th/early 20th Century, it was likely used to emboss leatherwork.

It was very dull when I got it, so I cleaned it with wood soap, let it dry thoroughly, then applied two light coats of Tung oil to restore and protect the wood. Then, I drilled out the top of the handle with a 24mm forstner bit, and applied a coat of beeswax to further protect and polish the wood.

I've now set the knot (24mm G5C synthetic) with marine grade silicone, and will allow to cure for another 24 hours before using.

This was a great little project to work on, and very much looking forward to using this beautiful new brush for the first time.

Behold! Secret of the Beehive.

She’s a beauty mate, that’s really thinking “outside the square” to turn a hand seal into a fine looking brush 👍
